This week is Thanksgiving, so Coffee Talk Mom thought I should write a little something about gratitude. There are SO many things
(Especially this yearJ) but today is all about my amazing aunties and their willingness to write notes and remember birthdays.
My Aunt Pearl is 98 years old. She is an amazing woman who has literally lived through history. Since I was a baby, she would write to me. We have never lived close by but her radiance as a Godly woman has always attracted me to her. YES…I am VERY blessed by my aunties!
Last week, I turned 48 and I received a handwritten letter from her. At 98, she suffers from arthritis, but still remains determined to write. When I open the envelopes, I am always in awe of her ability to relate to me, pray for me, and chat about her daily life. This is a GIFT.
Today, we struggle to have our kids write handwritten notes of thanks. Our rule at Coffee Talk Mom's house is that you can't use the gift until the thank you is in the mail. My kids are getting older now and I can no longer "police" their willingness to follow through. I just know that for my parent's and grandparent's generation, a handwritten note goes a long way. Does an email count? Is a phone call of thanks ok? I am just not sure. Finding stationary, sitting down and thinking about what you will say, addressing the envelope, all takes time and more importantly…THOUGHT.
Maybe Friday after all of the festivities, you can take 10 minutes to sit and write a letter to someone who has made a difference in your life. Trust me, they will L O V E and it will be worth more than any gift. It is a gift unto itself.
Happy Thanksgiving
Coffee Talk Mom
