I look at my life as one big "You have to laugh or you will cry moment". We had one of those on our recent trip to Hawaii. Our boys have never seen the islands so Dave thought he would go "all out" and sign us up for a luau! DUH! We are in HAWAII…let's do it. So Sunday night we headed (no not in matching shirts) to see the greatest luau in Kauai at the Hyatt! WOOHOO…$400, but we are excited. The boys will see fire-jugglers, and hula girls, and WAIT! Who are we kidding? Our boys are 18 and 23…they could probably care less, but they went with a great attitude knowing that Dad really wanted us all to have fun.
As we anxiously arrived the big event we quickly realized there was something amiss. A long line of middle-aged couples went directly into…A CONFERENCE room! WHAAAA?? Apparently, with the threat of showers, they had moved the Luau inside. We were about to experience the beauty of God's creation, pig roast and all in a flippin' hotel conference room! Rather than complain, we just decided to make the best of it. The big pig was marched through the dining hall as well as a Don Ho moderator singing "Tiny Bubbles". It was a night to remember…especially the scantily clad "dancer" who was carried past the table at one point during the "show". Dave slapped me on the arm when "Don" asked if anyone was celebrating an anniversary as if to say "Hey…STAND UP...this is our big chance!"…Reluctantly, I stood and waved to the adoring pool- goers with a smile.
What is Hawaii without a Luau?? For us, it was the perfect choice…a moment of complete and utter laughter at the whole scene we were somehow a part of. I have attached some amazing photos of what will most likely be our last Luau for many years!
Enjoy Summer!
