Good news/Bad news
This morning after plugging in a little piece of CT Dad history, I quickly realized the passing of the old hallowed crock (pot). I took a hot coffee up to Dave and gave him the bad news: "We will be having a little funeral for a friend today"…You see, this crock pot followed Dave to C.U. in the 80's and has been with us for 27 years of marriage, 5 moves, and many parties. In fact, if I am totally honest, I tried to ditch the ugly thing on several occasions by taking it full of something yummy to a party, then telling the hostess, "Oh, it's ok…I'll get it back from you whenever". It didn't work. I knew I had to hold onto it for the sake of my marriage. CT Dad LOVED this thing and actually made numerous pots of chili in it over the years (his only cooking he will admit). If this crock could talk…I tell you it would have some stories, as it spent many New Year's parties on the bar in our basement full of queso dip, attended Superbowl and holiday events, and so much more. We have dropped it, scratched it, completely submerged it, and it just refused to die…until today.
WHY am I writing about this??? Well, now that I am on in age (bahaha) I notice things from my childhood more (is anybody with me?)… When I see something old school I will say things like, "That was my mom's waffle iron!". I am sure I sound crazy to my kids, but there is something comforting about seeing things from your childhood…(although spatulas still kind of freak me out since that was what I was spanked with…remember that technique? We were good for weeks afterward!). I digress. When I see things from my past, it conjures up sweet memories of cooking with my mom and sister, an event we hosted, or just everyday life. My dad had this plaid thermos, and I will never forget seeing it in a goodwill years ago. He would bring it full of coffee to the beach when he would make his famous sand-cakes…oh I mean pancakes! Those were fun family mornings I will never forget.
Well, it is Saturday morning, and I am expecting 15 for dinner…I know I will never be able to truly replace the old hallowed crock, but I guess I better try!
Latte on the way,
Coffee Talk Mom
