Now isn't that special? Coffee Talk Mom thinks she is going to explain "JOY" to me in a few short words? Give me a break!
Turning 50 in November really got me thinking about being joyful in this journey of life. Many of my friends focus on weather, health issues, and some kind of Debbie Downer mentality of their discontented life. . "Oh…there's a storm comin'", "I need to get back to the doctor for____", "Did you see that Obama character on the news?"… are not a rare occurrence. Now granted, there is nothing wrong with having friends to relate to, I just find myself carrying on conversations that are of the negative nature more often than I should. I read it once that JOY is HAPPINESS without the MOODINESS. It is for that reason, I am trying to find JOY in the simple parts of my days, or, God forbid, in hard times.
I started the year with getting rear ended, alone…in a bad part of Las Vegas. Let's see, God…let's find some JOY here. Later, I was able to Thank God I wasn't injured, and the rental I was driving seemed pretty unscathed compared to the guy who hit me (see hilarious photo as I think I was hit by a 7 year old from Korea (who happens to work at Samsung))…JOY!
The Broncos: Well…not much JOY there! How about the fact that I had ZERO anxiety over the Superbowl game Sunday and I could just sit back and enjoy the commercials, our neighbors, and alone time with my niece…JOY!
I've been feeling like an idiot in exercise class with my fellow 20-somethings since December. As a hilarious comedian once said, "Why are there mirrors in front of you when you exercise? If I liked what I saw in the mirror…I wouldn't be here." Well, I am getting the hang of it, standing in the front row, and able to laugh at myself with the other "older folks" about the things we are "unwilling to do with TRX bands"!
You see, JOY is a mindset. It's not about being "happy" all of the time. It is about giving your day to God, seeing what he has planned, and finding some kind of JOY in the journey.
Cheers! (Well…apparently red wine only on low carb diets…but at least there is an option for a drink!),
JOY,
CoffeeTalkMom
