If you're like me, you may have grown up watching Joan Lunden and Jane Pauley on morning TV. My mom usually had it on in the background and somehow getting the news "first thing" was edifying. Now you could go on with your day, knowing the world was/was not ending. I grew up in Southern California, so the weather was less of an issue. Opinions were left to the newspapers, and entertainment television was not even a speck in their eye. Occasionally, as the show closed, they would share a quick tidbit about a celebrity happening.
I am a creature of habit. I have always had a kitchen TV. Although I don't "sit" to watch TV, I picked up the habit and have it as background noise and information. Recently, I decided to use my DVR "STOP" button when commercials come on. Then, I fast forwarded through "previews" for "what is coming up", crowds cheering, commercials for the show (DURING the show) and you know what I found? NOTHING! The PC Police News (which are snippets of what is truly happening in the world, zero world news, gossip, and contests), followed by a sort of hybrid HGTV and Food Network (but not as good). I am a grown up and it dawned on me, "I don't have to watch this junk!". I have started plugging in my speaker and listening to music to get my day going, my BP regulated, and, in general, a much better attitude toward others.
Not judging, just saying...for about 10 minutes of content per hour of programming, I can read or spend my time much for productively.
