It's been on the books for awhile... a big trip, but not for me. I have been left, abandoned, deserted, and cast off...well...not exactly. When trips involve more than 5 or more flights in 11 days, I check out. So off he went to conquer the start-up world and I have been asked multiple times, "What are you going to do?". In all honesty, I was a little worried since "by myself" has been true in every sense of the word. With the dog gone and the student now "adulting" in the real world (that is a blog unto itself), the house is quiet. Of course, its always good to make lists and get organized...plan your days, and excursions but I have just mostly left it to my whim. When is the last time you fully controlled your schedule? I mean from wake-up to sleep? I have had a couple of shifts at work, but other than that I have been able to take time to myself. Now, it's not all "fun", but it's been on my timeline which has been a nice break. So...what would YOU do if you had 11 days?
I read a book. Actually...I read 2 books. They are both on Kindle and were $1.99 each. "The Secret Wife" was about the Romanov family in Russia...good read and historically quasi-accurate. "The Letter" was an easy read connecting a modern-day story to characters from the past. I started out VERY into it, and kind of felt like it dragged a little more at the end.
I went to a "day" movie: "Paris Can Wait". I love Diane Lane. It was very "Francy" which was fun and focused on food and taking the time out to enjoy the experience. It was a solid 3 as the story line really went no-where and the pace was slow. Wait for video and watch it on a snowy day this winter. Now...I have heard from several friend that "The Book of Henry" is excellent! That is on my list for later! Let me know if you have seen it.
I cleared out the basement "bedroom", ordered tile, painted all of the baseboards and walls, and made it into a workout room. That was a little crazy, made better by a long distance call to a friend on speaker-phone, and Netflix playing on my I-pad as distraction.
I visited my brother's farm, celebrated my nieces birthday, did a shot of whiskey and cooked hot-dogs on a pitch-fork. I mean...it doesn't get much better than that!
My wrist is sore from painting, my lawn is overgrown, the yogurt, coffee, and handfuls of pistachios are getting old, I need gas in the car,a manual on the counter I need read, and in only a few short days CTDad will walk back through the door and for that I am grateful!
What are YOU going to do?
