If you know me at all, you know I am "all in" for the 4 seasons, but somehow after January 1st, I am ready for some green grass (color), warm air (not to be confused with hot), and flip flops! This year, I am trying to focus on the good stuff, and put aside the things that really don't matter (like the weather). Here are some of CTM's favorite for winter survival:
A new Book: The Little Book of Hygge: My mom is Danish and gave us each this book for Christmas with some photos of our Danish relatives. It is awesome!! It also happens to be super TRENDY...Way to go, CoffeeTalk Nan! Just google the word, and up comes the joy of living "Danish". Some of the basics include good lighting in your home (180 days of rain and clouds), lots of candles, and time with friends and family. It's the quintessential cozy lifestyle: blankets, candles, warm socks, and a good book. Who doesn't like that?
A TENS unit: What the heck? Hey...it works. We used to use them in the training room 24-7 and now you can have one at home for the little aches and pains. It's a portable nerve stimulation unit that pays for itself if it helps you avoid the doctor. No need to spend big bucks. The small units suffice and are under $50.
A Bright Sweater: Man, woman, and child...doesn't matter...hide the black, brown, and gray for a day and wear a colorful sweater. If you are not into spending a bunch of money, try Target...I love getting new little updates for cheap. The winter clothing is all on sale now!
A new focus: Take the time on a snowy, dreary Saturday to paint a room, or clean up a space in your home. It feels great! Last weekend CTDad and I painted an entryway, cleared out all of the shoes and lost gloves, and cleaned it all up. I actually LIKE walking out the back door now! Cost: $25 for a can of paint.
A new recipe: I know we are all watching what we eat, ditching the leftover cookies, and back to working out...right? Over the holidays, rather than giving cookies, I tried a take on a recipe I saw a couple of years back. I took mason jars and layered goat cheese, fresh herbs (I did rosemary from my garden) and hot red peppers, olive oil, salt and pepper. you can use this on crackers, take to a football party to share, or just keep in your fridge for last minute guests! The actual recipe called for fresh basil which would be amazing as a precursor to a nice Italian meal.
Hope this finds you thriving through the winter months.
Cheers!
