When we moved back to South Denver, we inherited new hiking hills and terrain. Out our back door, we now have a circular trail with great views of the city and front range. A few weeks ago I started “wogging” which is a very scientific word meaning “jogging+walking”. It gets the heart rate up and makes me feel like I had a decent workout. Today, I went in the opposite direction. Now I realize that this does not change the intensity of the trail in any way, but for some reason, it felt harder. Some of the hills felt steeper and longer and I was exhausted.
It got me thinking about how sometimes in my life I am going up the same “trail” but it just feels more difficult. Many times, this is for a purpose. I may be trying to get somewhere, but instead of a straight shot, God is taking me on a different path to get to the same place. It’s human nature to want to take the easier trail...to get to where we want to go as fast as possible. I have learned that some of my most important lessons have come from the longer trail...you know...the one that is uphill both ways.
Take a minute today to “slow down” and enjoy the journey!
