Fall is in the air and it's time to take a couple of bucks and update your wardrobe! I don't go in a clear everything out. I try to see what will take me through another winter in Colorado and add a couple of key pieces to it for a quick update.
After scouring through magazines and the internet, there are a few age-appropriate things you can do to update your wardrobe:
Polka Dots: This is easy with a scarf or new top from TJ Maxx and it is everywhere for fall.
Colored Jeans: I know, I know…I have spent a year resisting this. I just don't have the body shape for it and ALL of the emphasis goes to the hips. HOWEVER, now that it is fall, there are several shades that come in more subtle colors and the trend seems more "do-able" for us ladies! How about a pair in wine or a slate blue?
High Waisted Pencil Skirt: Be sure to get one that fits properly and it will be with you for years to come. Any shirt tucked in brings the eye to the smallest part of your waist and you can maintain a sheik look without too much stress. Pair with a low black kitten heel for work or church.
Cat Eye Sunglasses: Only if they fit your face shape. I tried some on with my mom yesterday and she said,"Uhh...NO"...in the nicest possible way! BUT...Nordstrom junior department is the place to go for trendy watches ($16) and sunglasses ($10-$16)…any accessories. That makes it fun to try this trend!
Tapestry: as in 80's pillows…I think I will pass, but if you enjoy the look…go for it!
Leather: Duh! The BEST money I ever spent was having a leather jacket made to fit in Italy at our Uncle's store in Florence…it fits like a glove and can be paired with anything and look good!..If you are worried about styles changing, go for the pleather at Marshalls and get brown and black!
Oxford Shoes: LOVE these…any kind…heel or no heel. BUT…they are masculine so it is best to pair them with jeans and a frilly top!
"Statement Collar": Easy to do and fun…Peter pan colors are back and anything with bling or pearls looks amazing with a little cardigan and jeans or your pencil skirt!
Cross-Shoulder bags: I hurt my neck and shoulder about a month ago and I realized I CANNOT carry such heavy bags. These cross body ones are better on your back and make your whole outfit look updated. WE DESERVE a good bag, ladies! We carry them EVERYWHERE and need to have one that lasts!
As usual…anything goes…mixing patterns, pumps, spring skirts with sweaters, etc…
Don't you ever run into someone that looks super cute in something like that but you KNOW you would look like an idiot if you tried to do it at home??
The key to anything new is to have the confidence to wear it out and KNOW you look good. When someone compliments you, say, "Thank You" and don't try to downplay it. THIS is super hard for me but I notice it and envy it in others.
Most of all HAVE SOME FUN with your wardrobe and stop taking yourself so seriously!
Happy Fall
